About Mitigation Training Academy
Practical IICRC Training by Active Professionals
Mitigation Training Academy was founded in 2013 by Chris Spensley with a simple goal: provide real-world, practical training for restoration professionals- not theory taught by someone who hasn’t worked the job in years. Since our inception, we have certified thousands of technicians in the fields of Water Damage, Fire Damage, Odor Control, and Trauma Scene Restoration.
From 2013 through 2020, all courses were delivered in person. Following the pandemic, Mitigation Training Academy transitioned to 100% virtual education. What began as a necessity quickly proved to be an improvement- virtual delivery allows for clearer instruction, broader access, and the ability for students to learn without stepping away from their businesses or families. Today, virtual training is the exclusive format, and it continues to deliver strong results. Our exam passing rate across subjects taught is > 95%.
What Truly Sets Mitigation Training Academy Apart Is Who Is Teaching
Chris is not a full-time instructor. He is an active restoration professional who owns and operates a successful restoration company in Southeast Michigan. Because he works in the industry every day, the material taught reflects current standards, real jobsite challenges, and proven methods that actually work- not outdated slides or textbook theory.
To ensure quality and relevance, Chris teaches only one class per month. This intentional limitation allows him to stay fully engaged in day-to-day restoration operations while bringing fresh, real-world experience into every class he teaches.
